What We Fancy
The watch world was turned upside down in 1972 when Audemars Piguet released the Gerald Genta designed Royal Oak reference 5402. The strong geometric case with octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet design was revolutionary for watch design. Bulova wanted to pay tribute to Genta who worked with the brand extensively in the 60s. So in the late 70s, they released this reference 4420101. If released today, many would scream “ripoff!”. But not then, and today the Bulova Royal Oak is a rare collector’s item.
