1954 Universal Geneve Polarouter ref. 20217 'Tropical'
What We Fancy
The Polerouter is one of those watches that you need to wear on the wrist to really appreciate its genius design. Famously designed by a young Gerald Genta, you know, the guy who designed the Nautilus & Royal Oak. The long twisted lugs make the 35mm case wear considerably larger. The outer imposing silver track carries some serious Mad Men dress watch vibes and one can imagine it on the wrist of Don Draper as he gives an ad pitch to Jaguar. This particular example is an early iteration from the first year the model was released in 1954 making it very rare. YOu can distinguish these earlier models by the thicker more squared cases and Pol-A-router instead of the usual Pol-E-router you see on most models. Not only is this example an early generation but it’s also all original and has a beautiful tropical brown dial.
