What We Fancy
Alberto Santos Dumont was a famed aviator from Brazil who found his clumsy pocket watch too inconvenient for use when flying. Santos Dumont asked for the help of a friend by the name of Louis Cartier. Mr. Cartier went to work designing a watch for Alberto's wrist and boom, the Santos Dumont was born. Customers loved the design and demanded a similar wristwatch. So in 1911, the Cartier Santos-Dumont was officially named and offered as the first mass-produced wristwatch.
